From Scrambled Eggs in Thailand to Assembling My Experiments: Why I Left NYC to Reset My Life

In the summer of 2023, I made a decision that looked terrifying on paper: I unplugged myself from corporate America.
After completing my Masters at Stevens Institute of Technology, navigating the fast-paced energy of New York City, working on data governance at Lumen, and managing enterprise financial pipelines at AMC Networks in Manhattan, I was hit by my second wave of tech layoffs.
It was a pivotal moment of forced clarity. I asked myself a simple question: "Do I want my visa status and corporate cycles to dictate where I land, or is there a bigger room to grow?"
I packed my bags, stepped out of the grid, and booked a flight to Thailand to reset my life.
When I first arrived in Ko Lanta, my mind felt like a scrambled egg—half-baked, half-fried, half-raw. Going from the 24/7 hustle of subway commutes between Jersey and Manhattan to sitting by the calm waters of Southeast Asia was a massive culture shock.
In America, everyone asks: "Are you sponsored? What company are you at next?"
In India, people ask: "Are you getting another job or getting married?"
In Thailand and Bali, the community asks: "How do you want to live? What are you building for yourself?"
Surrounding myself with creators, consultants, and founders who had voluntarily stepped off the corporate treadmill gave me an entirely new perspective. I realized I wasn't taking a break; I was executing a strategic sabbatical.
Over the next three years, I traveled between the yoga capital of Rishikesh, the creator hubs of Bangkok and Canggu, the quiet beaches of Ko Lanta, and the heritage textile centers of India. I immersed myself in understanding customer psychometrics, luxury brand perception, and the creator economy, all while keeping my hands dirty in emerging AI frameworks.
I began connecting dots between three worlds: the high-speed execution of America, the deep artisan heritage of India, and the conscious lifestyle balance of Southeast Asia.
They say your 20s are about experimenting, and your 30s are about assembling your experiments.
Stepping away from the 9-to-5 grid gave me the mental space to define the Six Protocols of Human Freedom: Health, Emotion, Mind, Finances, Energy, and Environment. It allowed me to transform from a corporate analyst following a playbook into a Solutions Architect who builds independent digital infrastructure from zero to one.
Today, I return to technology not out of panic or necessity, but out of pure intent. I choose where to deploy my presence, my code, and my architecture—on my own terms.
Key Takeaways for Founders and Leaders
Strategic Sabbaticals Build Character: Stepping out of corporate noise develops a rare level of self-reliance, risk tolerance, and holistic perspective that traditional career paths cannot teach.
The Power of Global Perspective: Experiencing how technology is built in the West versus how it is lived and utilized in the East creates deep empathy for both developers and end-users.
Assembling the Experiments: Unconventional life choices are only valuable if you synthesize the lessons into structured execution.
